Business Travel Boosted
The Mexican government will give an unprecedented boost to conventions, congresses and other types of business gatherings, under a joint public-private strategy of promoting its wide range of destinations, offering tax incentives and increasing infrastructure through private projects of more than US$4 billion this year, government officials and business executives have announced.

Business meetings generated revenues of more than US$500 million last year, a figure that should be substantially increased this year through global promotions and the implementation of new rules, such as sales tax reimbursements to all business meeting delegates.

According to the International Congress and Convention Association, Mexico was ranked number 14 in the number of business meeting delegates in 2009, with 123,278. A joint commission that includes several government agencies, business organizations and congressional committees will boost infrastructure projects, mostly new business-class hotels, to diversify the travel sector’s overall offering of convention sites.
